Hey everyone! Recently I made Nutella by myself based on a Buzzfeed video. As you see, looks delicious! Go ahead, watch the video. Then press "read more" to get my experience!
Now, you're probably thinking, " Anna! Why don't I just buy it?". Well, my little awkward people, it doesn't have preservatives and other unhealthy gunk. Also I had everything but hazelnuts in my cabinet, so I just had to buy that. Now that that's cleared up, the video makes the recipe seem super simple but they kind of leave some stuff out. For example, you need roasted blanched hazelnuts not any old raw hazelnut. You can see their hazelnuts were blanched or without skins but you probably couldn't tell they were roasted. They need to be roasted because, to my disbelief, they have more oil that way. Without the extra oil, the hazelnuts won't cream into a paste. I even recommend just buying "hazelnut butter" so you don't have to hassle with the uncertainty of perfect Nutella.
Let's say that you ended up like me with a bunch of Nutella powder in a blender, well that's an easy fix. Simply pour nut milk into the mixture until the desired consistency is achieved. Finally, if you do the full recipe you're going to end up with a lot more than a jar of Nutella, I halved it and ended up just fine. Here is my adjusted recipe:
Ingredients:
One cup of hazelnut butter or roasted hazelnuts
One cup of powdered sugar (or less depending on your sweet tooth)
1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon of vegetable oil (olive or sunflower oil work fine)
Pinch of salt
Optional: Nut milk in case the consistency isn't right
Materials:
A bowl
A good blender
And a medium sized jar
Procedure!
1. If you are using roasted hazelnuts, blend them to a creamy consistency in the blender.
2. Measure out all the ingredients, except the hazelnuts, into a bowl.
3. Put the hazelnut butter into the blender and slowly add the other ingredients until desired flavor is achieved
4. If the consistency is too dry or thick slowly add in the nut milk.
5. Scoop/pour into jar and enjoy!
When you're done with your serving, keep in the refrigerator!
