Hello my awkward turtles! I'm going to tell you how to have healthy beautiful nails from the comfort of your home! We are going to do three steps that you should at least do every other day so as to not end up with torn up cuticles and cracked nails. These are super simple and should be achievable with stuff already in your house. Okay, let's get to it!
Our first step is to push back your cuticles. Take a bowl big enough to fit your hand comfortably and fill it up with warm water. If you want to have perfumed hands put a couple drops of essential oils in. Soak your hand in the bowl for five to ten minute, if you're impatient just watch a YouTube video! That's what I do. Now take a cuticle pusher or just the thumbnail on the other hand and gently push your cuticles back. Finally repeat with the other hand! Optionally you may soak your hands for two minutes in some olive oil to moisturize them after this procedure.
Let's make some cuticle oil that's super moisturizing and easy to use daily! You can change the recipe slightly depending on the consistency you'd like. If you add more Vaseline you can make it a cuticle cream which you can store in a tin like a balm.
Moisturizing Cuticle Oil:
Ingredients:
One tablespoon of Coconut Oil
One-Two Teaspoons of Olive Oil
One Teaspoon of Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly
A couple drops of Essential Oil (I used Citrus)
Equipment:
A squeeze bottle (or tin if you are making cream)
A heat safe glass container
A small pot of water
A metal spoon
Steps:
1. Place the pot on the stove and place the glass in the water.
2. Add all the ingredients to the glass and turn the heat to medium-low
3. Mix until combined and almost entirely melted
4. Turn off the heat and carefully pour the contents out of the glass and into the bottle.
5. Let cool and enjoy!
To use just turn the bottle upside down, drip a bit of oil onto every cuticle, and massage it in. This really conditions your cuticles and leaves them soft and often helps to get rid of torn skin around the nail. Use every day for optimal cuticle health!

Have you ever snapped your nail in half? It's annoying, but this next step will help reduce the risk. Find a strengthening clear nail polish or a colored one. I like to use Nicole by OPI 3-in-1 base, top, and strengthening nail polish and use it over colored polishes. Make sure your nails are dry and then do two coats of the nail polish. And you're done! This is the final step but it so efficient at keeping your nails shiny and strong!
Now you have the prettiest hands in all the land without going to a salon. People will love touching your soft hands and you'll be proud to have not spent a single penny. Now go forth into the world! Thank you for reading, please leave a comment, and stay awkward!
